My Better Medicare
My Better Medicare was developed by Canadian Doctors for Medicare and its partners. Canadian Doctors for Medicare has, since its inception, advocated for a universally, accessible, public health care system covering all medically necessary physician and hospital services. But advocating for Medicare means not only defending accessible health care but also advocating for continuous improvement in the health care system.
The principles enshrined in the Canada Health Act—accessibility, universality, portability, comprehensiveness and public administration, serve as a foundation upon which a high-quality health care system needs to be built, but do not, by themselves ensure quality health care.
My Better Medicare helps to build that quality health care system by disseminating documented examples of changes to health systems that enhance patient care or the effectiveness of service.
The overarching goal of My Better Medicare is to:
- Illustrate to doctors, ordinary Canadians and policymakers how our health care system is currently being improved, and can continue to be improved, by innovating within Medicare
- Share innovative and valuable practices and ideas among health care professionals and policy makers, with the ultimate goal of improving the health care system for all Canadians
Participate in the campaign by:
- Writing about a documented example of a change to health care delivery that enhanced care while sustaining accessible, universal public care
- Commenting on an existing post by other health care professionals
- Writing about your experience as a participant in the health care system that demonstrates effective practice within an accessible, universal public system
- Participating in the Future Practitioners Award
- Endorsing the campaign
