Although there is widespread support for Medicare in Canada, there is also a recognition that the health care system needs improvement. To best serve our patients, our health care system needs to evolve to meet certain challenges such as our health human resource shortages, long wait times for some services and fragmented care.

Advocating for our patients means not only defending the Canada Health Act but also advocating for continuous improvements to Medicare.

The My Better Medicare campaign is about moving forward with positive change in health care within the publicly-funded system rather than outside it.

Support Canadian innovations and opportunities that improve rather than dismantle Canada’s health care system. Support innovations that:

• Increase equity, not only in access but also in outcomes
• Improve the overall quality of care
• Increase the provision of effective, clinically indicated services
• Decrease the provision of ineffective services that are not clinically indicated
• Efficiently use financial and human resources
• Engage the public in health system resource allocation, design and delivery issues
