MEDICARE
How Would You Improve It?
2009 Essay Contest
In 2009, Canadian Doctors for Medicare, in partnership with two peer-reviewed journals, Canadian Journal of Public Health and Canadian Family Physician, invited medical students and residents across Canada to enter an essay contest that asks the question: “How should Canada improve its health care system?”
Participants were asked to focus their essays on one specific aspect of the health care system or take a broader approach. Examples of possible topics included access to primary care, wait time strategies, comprehensive models of care for chronic diseases, or the introduction of Pharmacare.
