Canada’s health care system comes under intensive scrutiny. But most Canadians express strong support. In poll after poll, Canadians express confidence in our comprehensive, universal, public health care system.

Take an opportunity to write about your experience of our health care system and share how accessible, affordable health care has benefited you or others you know. We encourage posts that offer insight into ways our system is working well and ways it can continue to improve.

My hip replacement surgery was scheduled to fit my needs and my schedule. The surgery was effective and without any pain. I am totally satisfied with the whole experience. Thanks to the surgeon and the nuring care I received.

I recently had cataract eye surgery, done on both eyes at the same time, with excellent results.  I have since heard, via my optometrist, that most eye surgeons don't do both eyes at once.  One wonders why not, if there are no medical contraindications.  From a patient's viewpoint, it is much more efficient to do the pre and post-op regimens for both eyes at once rather than in two separate episodes.  Obviously it would also be mulch cheaper re hospital resources (rooms, meds, personnel etc.) to do both eyes at the same time.  I understand that the surgeon is paid less if he operates on both eyes in one session thanb if he operates on one eye at a time on two separate occasions.  But surely the benefits to the patient and the financial efficiencies to be gained should be the highest priority here.

I have been researching models of authentic primary health care networks. I visited many different examples across Canada but the one that stands out is the Sandy Hills Community Health Centre in the Ottawa area. It can be accessed through the following link: www.sandyhillchc.on.ca/mainEngl/home_engl.html. Through its organization and practice, it places the team approached responsibility of health care with an emphasis onkeeping people healthy, at the community level. A wonderful concept that should be a beacon for others to follow/emulate.
